Dorm Life 2

I got through first semester with the help of my other roommate who was a lot like me (clean and shared the same interests).  But unfortunately, she could not bear to live with our messy roommate and moved out.  Second semester seemed to be looking up because I got a new roommate who SEEMED to be nice and clean.  BUT I was wrong.  She turned out to be an annoyance (would wake up at 5:00 A.M. to go to the gym and would turn on all the overhead lights and be as loud as can be) and turned out to be rude and only talked to me when I talked to her first.  Although my messy roommate was indeed messy, she was nice and I respected that more after dealing with my new roommate.  Yes, it is easier to live with a messier person than a mean person (not by much though).  In the end, I learned that dorm life was not me and chose to move back home into my room that I had taken for granted growing up.

Yes! I am much happier!

Dorm Life

My Freshman year at UMASS Lowell was a miserable one.  Not because I did not enjoy my classes-because I did (and got on Dean's List twice) but because of dorm life.  I was stuck in a forced double (three girls living in a room meant to be for two people) and was still paying for a double room.  I found this unfair, but apparently UMASS did not care.  Also, one of my roommates never showered and was messy as hell.  I know this may not seem too much of a concern to others- but believe me, living with someone you are not compitable to live with is hard.  I never had to share a bedroom before and was in for a rude awakening at college.

College

College is difficult as it is without having professors doing their job 100%.  Am I wrong to say that it is just as much the professors' duty to teach than it is the students' duty to learn?  Although the students PAY their tution, professors are GETTING PAID to teach!  Imagine if students were getting paid to do their work?  Things would surely be different.  A professor must be organized, make their class interesting, and make sure that the students are understanding their lessons.  Also, professors should not move on to a different lesson if students seem not understand the lesson.  Although professors do not get paid as much as they would wish (I am sure) it is still their job to teach!  And if many of their students do poorly in their class, it reflects on the teacher!

Cats

Growing up with cats I do not think I would ever be able to have a dog as a pet.  I am used to only having the responsibility to feed my cats and clean up after them when necessary.  I would never get used to having to walk a dog and be able to take care of them like they are my child!  Maybe I am being dramatic but cats are the pet for me!

Being sick

As if being sick is not inconveinient enough, the doctor's office adds to the annoyance.  What happened to the days when doctors would come to the persons house and cure them in the safety of their own home?  When a person is sick they should not leave their house!  They should rest in bed and not use the little energy they have to spend most of their time in the waiting room at a doctor's office.  As if doctors aren't getting paid enough!  They should make house calls unless it is necessary for the patient to seek more medical help.  Also, being sick makes it extremely difficult for students.  If a student is sick, they must go to the doctor's office and pay a co. pay only to receive a doctor's note to provide for their teachers.  Now, if a person is sick, they are sick and should be able to get an E-mail from their doctor to show their teachers.

Music Business

In this post I will talk about how fake the music industry is.  No longer is it important at how good you play your instrument or how long you practice your instrument daily.  What is important is who you know.  Today, many musicans will do whatever they can to suck up to people who have a strong position in the music industry.  These musicans are willing to betray their own band members only to become successful.  No longer is the main concern of the musican is the music but the money.  It is a difficult world in the music business as it is without the musicans acting fake and being concerned with their success.  I say, why become a musican if all you care about is the money?  It is difficult enough to become successful in the music industry without having the worry about making music sales.  Although I wish musicans were more faithful to their music, it's a dog eat dog world out there and just like any other profession, the workers are out for themselves.

Tegan and Sara

My blog would not be complete without sharing the information of my favorite band, "Tegan and Sara".  Tegan and Sara Quin are identical twin sisters and were born on September 19, 1980.  Although they both sing and play guitar in their band "Tegan and Sara" they also play the piano; which is actually the instrument they are most comfortable playing.  The sisters were born in Calgary, Albera (Canada) and began writing songs at the age of fifteen.  So far, the band has released six albums and is working on a seventh.  "Tegan and Sara" will continue to tour around the world and put on amazing live concerts for those who enjoy their indie/rock music.

For me, "Tegan and Sara" is my favorite band not only because I love their music but because of many other reasons.  Since I play sing, play guitar, and write songs of my own, Tegan and Sara are two women I look up to.  I admire how they have been a band for over ten years and put all of their affort into touring all over the world and putting on great concerts for their auidences.  I also respect how Tegan and Sara stand up for certain issues such as women's rights, animal rights, and gay rights.  I love how both Tegan and Sara connect to their fans by blogging fequently and sharing different aspects of their life.  I have seen Tegan and Sara twice in concert.  Not only were their music performances amazing, but they also talked to the crowd; sharing stories of what their songs were about to their fans.  This was a moment I will never forget because now when I listen to "Tegan and Sara" I am able to connect to their songs on a more personal level.  I recommend "Tegan and Sara" for those who enjoy indie/rock or easy listening.
